What an eyesore

Stamford that is in Lincolnshire could possibly be in the small county of Rutland. And is few miles south of Cambridgeshire. The new A16 that was built from Peterborough never existed before and passed away from the small town of Crowland. Before and after you pass through the county border of Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. Mind you Peterborough could have had its own county that would be called Peterboroughshire.

So nearly 20 yrs later it might be finished?😮

I bet there are other “Magic Roundabouts” located in other towns and cities in the UK. And not just in Swindon and Hemel Hempstead. Maybe you should do Saddlers Farm roundabout in Essex and see how it used to look like before.

Somebody at the council may be friends with someone at the car park construction company... That's the only logical explanation to why this was done so completely backwards, and built before there being any near term solid practical use.

First time you experience it as a new driver, WTF? more importantly How TF? But its actually a work of genius, cos you can't really do it quickly, even your yellow hot hatch dickhead has to submit to the slow staggered nature of how it works. Any chance you can do a vid on perfectly good roundabouts being replaced by traffic lights that waste time/fuel/energy? Try Aylesbury or Slough for that. Other traffic creating towns are available. In defence of local councils and their councillors, all decisions are made with the best available information at the time and in the best interests of many, many, stakeholders. And hey, think you can do better, then what's stopping you getting involved?

That's a roundabout way of saying it's not the magic roundabout because it's not the first roundabout to be magic but was inspired by the magic roundabout that really is the magic roundabout because it was the first magic roundabout and so sometimes it's called the magic roundabout even if it isn't the magic roundabout.

Hillary Brock's garage in Olney used to be an absolute force of nature. They were one of the top Ford dealers despite not being a gin palace. They sold too many cars for Ford to cull them. They also had those fuel pumps . They will be missed 😢

I used to visit Hemel on business in the late 80s and most of the 90s. In those days they had blocked off one of the exits (the one closest to the town centre). I haven’t been there for years and it looks like this exit has been re-opened. Does anyone know the story behind this?

There are another 2 satellite roundabouts that I know of. 1 near Canvey Island in Essex & another in Colchester, also in Essex. Colchester's one can be quite rubbish because of the drivers who have never worked out which lane to use (even though it has been a satellite roundabout since 1990).

My first encounter with this Magic Roundabout was in 1977, helping friends relocate, driving a rental Luton van from Kent to Leighton Buzzard. Fair freaked me out, tbh. However, some years later, as an occasional alternative commute between work & home, found it kept traffic moving, for the most part.

We used to be regular users of the A40 through this area. The A40 is a major east-west route. It's a real bottleneck around Oxford. You can be happily tootling along at 70mph, then come to an abrupt halt for 30 mins. The A40 improvements seem to be focused on local needs, doing nothing for this through traffic.

I lived in HH from 1974 to 1976 lodging in Adeyfields and working on Mayland's Avenue driving an R reg Ford Cortina 2.0GL. As the Magic Roundabout was still quite new most drivers entered - turned left - and exited as if it was a normal set up. By always turning right to start with and driving what appeared to be against the flow one could circumnavigate the system far more quickly.

Biblically accurate roundabout road sign
